About Us – Extended

The Rockland County Fire Explorer Post 44 has a long and proud history that began back in June of 1997—over 20 years ago! Two experienced firefighters envisioned creating Rockland’s first youth fire program for those aged 14 to 21. Meetings are primarily held at the Rockland County Fire Training Center, featuring both hands-on and classroom training/drills, typically scheduled for Sundays. Founders Mike Conklin and Dan Moran aimed to provide a meaningful platform for young people to learn about fire service and community engagement.

Our Explorer program is structured around two key levels of authority and guidance: Advisors and Officers. Advisors supervise and mentor the officers and all other members, while Head Advisors work diligently behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly. Officer positions are filled by regular members of the post who are elected by their peers (Advisors do not participate in the voting process). These officer roles are divided into two categories: House and Line. The House includes positions such as President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary (if needed), and Quartermaster. The Line comprises Captain, First Lieutenant, and Second Lieutenant.

As a proud part of the Exploring organization, we uphold the standards and core values set by the national body, fostering leadership, teamwork, and community service. Our commitment to these principles ensures that we not only prepare our members for potential careers in the fire service but also instill values that will serve them well in all aspects of life. We invite all eligible young individuals to join us in this rewarding journey of personal growth and community contribution.
