We train the heroes of tomorrow.

about us.

The Rockland County Fire Explorer Post 44 is an Adult Advisor supervised organization for teens and young adults between the ages of 14 and 21 interested in the Fire service. It simulates situations that are experienced in the fire service as well as training for said situations. Our drills consist of various training scenarios ranging from first aid (certified class) to structure fires. While the Fire Explorer program does not train Explorers to a level of firefighting certification (such as FireFighter 1) it does however provide the skills necessary for introduction to FireFighter 1. This is why many of the Rockland County Fire Departments use our program to prepare their new probationary members for The New York State Firefighter 1 course. We uphold the core Exploring values which are to “Deliver character-building experiences and mentorship that allow youth to achieve their full potential in both life and work.”.

Examples of our drills

To help you understand some of what we do we have included some examples of the main drills we do.
1

Blood borne Pathogens/First Aid

Our Bloodborne pathogens/First Aid classes are the basics of our program as we want our members to be able to have the skills and knowledge to provide safe and high quality care in times of emergency, These classes come with a certification card after completion.

Ladder Operations

Ladder Operations is extremely important on a fire scene as it provides both means of egress and ingress in case of emergency.

3

Extrication (Vehicles)

Vehicle extrication is an extremely dangerous emergency for both the victims and firefighters. When firefighters are called to an extrication the victim is usually stuck or “pinned” inside their vehicle which at the same time may be leaking fuel or even on fire. This is why it is extremely important to remove the victim both carefully and fast usually with guidance of EMS.

R.C.C. Youthfest safety

Since 1997 (The same year which we were founded) The Explorers have provided our safety services for the annual  R.C.C. youthfest by looking for lost children and returning them to their parents/guardian, reporting suspicious activity to our command post which is in constant contact with the police booth, and many other tasks to ensure a safe festival for the youth all while running our own booth to recruit members.
